Great Tips on how to reduce lag on Planetside 2!

Planetside 2 is an amazing MMOFPS made by Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) on a HUGE scale! With battles raging over 20+ servers on 3 continents per server and THOUSANDS of people playing! With all these people on the server simultaneously you can expect lag from huge battles with tanks rolling in, infantry fighting each other, fighters in the air, and explosions everywhere! Lets say you downloaded the game and got on it the first time. You choose your faction out the three Terran Republic, New Conglomerate, and Vanu Sovereignty and you hop into battle. When you first join your default settings are on high and render distance is on 99999! With these settings your rig might not handle it, unless you have a good enough computer, which I sadly don't. :(

With beautiful terrain in Planetside you can expect lag.
First things first. If you have some lag a suggestion is turning down some of the settings in-game. Press the ESC button and navigate to the settings option in the bottom right corner. In there go to the graphics tab and in there you can change some graphic settings from high to low or back again! Once you have changed the settings and you still lag you can try turning down the render quality. It is in the same tab as the graphic settings so go in there. By default it is at 100% render quality. Change it to 50% to help reduce lag. Even at this quality and being on low the graphics are still amazing.

Still lagging? A simple way to make sure planetside 2 is getting the juice it needs to run is by going into your task manager and setting PlanetSide 2 on High. This focuses your computer's power towards running PlanetSide 2. Also, if you want, you can run it using razor game booster. Razor game booster can give you a few more frames of FPS. It stops all background processing so it can be used to run said game. To further reduce lag you can go into the UserOptions config file in the PlanetSide 2 folder within your C: drive. First go to C:\Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\PlanetSide 2. Once there scroll down till you see a file called UserOptions, it is near the end of the file. Open up the file and you will see the UserOptions for PlanetSide 2. In there you can change the render distance, render quality, and much more.

In there first change the render distance from 99999 to 1000 or 2000. It is under the [Render] area. You can still see pretty far on that distance. Next the render quality, which is in the [Display] area. You can change the quality from 0.10000 to 0.100000. I personally have mine at 0.30000, but be warned! The further you go down the more pixelated the game will be! After that you can change the max FPS, terrain quality, shadows and so on. I have most of them set to 0. WARNING!! Always keep GraphicsQuality set to 1. That is still pretty much it for what we can do in the UserOptions file. Make sure you save it! If saving it doesn't work try this. After you finish editing the file press the X button on the top right corner. When it prompts you to save it press the save button and exit out. Eventually SOE will add better game options into the settings in-game. Another way to help is to make sure your drivers are all updated! A great program I use is DriverMax. It's a program that allows you to scan your system and install drivers for the devices in your computer. DriverMax does have a limit though for it's free users. For free users you can only get 2 driver installations a day. For premium users you can get unlimited driver downloads!

Lastly a suggestion that should be used as a last resort. Get a better computer! This is the game that is making people go out and get better computers and/or graphic cards and such. Keep in mind even if it doesn't look good you can still be able to play! Buying a new computer might sound like a good idea but keep in mind, is it a good idea? Proper gaming computers can range from the $800 to the $2000! A good choice when getting or making your computer is to keep in mind what system specs PlanetSide 2 needs. It at least needs 4 GB of ram, 15 GB free on the hard drive, Windows XP or higher, Intel Core 2 Dou E6850/ AMD Phenom II X2 or higher. The requirements also suggest a video memory of 256 MB RAM. A nVidia 8600 series or higher/ AMD or ATI 4850 series or higher. The sound card should at least be a DirectX compatible. For now this is the infomation I know on reducing lag. Even with these settings I get 25 FPS. -_- Hope this helps you people out there! Good Luck and Have Fun!
