Can't find a LAN game in Civilization V? Here's a way to fix that for windows 7/8

Sid Meier's Civilization V, an amazing turn based strategy game developed by Firaxis Games, was released on Windows September 2010, and then on Mac in November 2010. Two years later the first expansion pack, Gods & Kings, was released in June 2012. A year after that, the second expansion pack, A Brave New World, was released in July 2013. However, it faced some problems, including not being able to find LAN games, which is what we'll we talking about.

You see this problem first appeared for my brother and I a while ago when playing. After wiping my brothers laptop due to a blue screen error, we re-installed Civilization V and played on a LAN server hosted by myself. After a while, we lost the ability to see any LAN games. Of course I consulted various forums trying to fix it, but to no avail. The few ways I tried included making sure Civ. was allowed in firewall, re-installing, using third party programs to join LAN games, etc. Still I couldn't find the solution until today. I read something about homegroups and something about it affecting LAN games in Civ. I noticed my laptop and his weren't in a homegroup and so I had to connect his Windows 8 laptop to my Windows 7 homegroup. Sounds simple right? Wrong.

You see, in the Windows 8 OS there is the Private and Public profile for connections. In Windows 8, Private is the new Home/Work profile for Windows 7. However, that wasn't the problem. It was that on his Windows 8 laptop, it couldn't find my homegroup. That is until I checked his adapter settings. Below are steps I used for Windows 7/8.

For Windows 7:

1) Make sure both computers are connected to the same connection.

2) Go to the Control Panel.

3) At the control panel, go to Network and Internet.

4) At Network and Internet go to Network and Sharing Center.

5) At Network and Sharing Center go to Change Adapter Settings.

6) At the Network Connections press your connection. In my case my wifi.

7) At the General Tab press Properties.

8) In the Properties Screen make sure everything is checked according to what is seen here:

9) After that go back to Network and Internet and go to Homegroup. Either join one already made or make one yourself. Have the other person join it and you should be able to join a LAN game!

Now for Windows 8:

1) Press the Window key and go to the start.

2) Move your mouse left to get the search bar up.

3) Type in Control Panel and click it.

4) At the Control Panel open up Network and Internet.

5) At Network and Internet open Network and Sharing Center.

5) At the Network and Sharing Center, click Change Adapter Settings at the left.

6) After opening it you should see the Network Connections. Open it.

7) At the General Tab click Properties.

8) At Properties make sure the Microsoft LLDP Protocol Driver box is checked. This will allow you to join a homegroup later on.

9) After that head back to Network and Internet and click on HomeGroup.

10) Either join an existing HomeGroup or create one.

11) After making/joining one you should be able to join a LAN game!

Well that brings us to the end of this. I hope this helped figure out your problem. If not leave a comment below! Thanks for reading!
